<video:description><![CDATA[Count Maximilian Anton Karl Baillet de Latour was an Austrian general during the French Revolutionary Wars. Born at Latour Castle in the Austrian Netherlands (present-day Belgium), he joined the Austrian Army in 1755 and distinguished himself in the Seven Years’ War.

HWW Museum Mannequins made a look-alike mannequin of Count Maximilian Baillet de Latour.

<video:title><![CDATA[Schinder Hannes look-alike display mannequin]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[The legend of Schinderhannes truly emerged from his escape from a prison tower in Simmern, a market town in the Hunsrück region of the Rhineland. At the time, the west bank of the Rhine was under French occupation, and the peasantry was happy to celebrate anyone who was able to flout the law.

At the end of 1798, Bückler had a criminal record that included thefts of at least 40 head of cattle and horses. He was arrested by French gendarmerie and brought before a judge, where he confessed some of his crimes.

Imprisoned in a wooden tower in Simmern that most believed to be impenetrable, he used a kitchen knife, smuggled in by a sympathetic guard, and cut a hole in a small window to escape. The prison escape became widely reported, exciting the public and making Schinderhannes a folk hero.

<video:title><![CDATA[Malakias Andersson – the town burner]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Karl Fredrik Malakias Andersson was born in February 1879. His parents were Anders and Kristina. In 1881 Kristina died and his father Anders moved in with another woman, Eva. Anders was periodically drunk, and Malakias was ill-treated and chastised.

On 4 July 1889, it was dry and hot. A fire near the harbour, caused by a spark from a passing train, drew crowds of curious onlookers. Malakias wanted to go too, but Eva said no. She herself went to the harbour with food for Anders, who helped with the extinguishing work. Malakias and his half-sister Hulda had to stay at home and look after the infant Hilma. Malakias got grumpy, scraped up some combustible material, took two matches and went down to the yard to make his own little fire. In this way, ten-year-old Malakias accidentally set half of Köping on fire.

For Köpings brandmuseum, we made a look alike head of the 10-year-old Malakias Andersson.

<video:title><![CDATA[Major van Loo look-alike (Nederlandse Vrijwillige Landstorm / Dutch Voluntary Landstorm, 1940)]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Very little of the history of the Dutch Voluntary Landstorm has been preserved. An exception is the life story of Major van Loo, commander of the 2nd Depot Battalion Voluntary Landstorm Corps Motor Service in Haarlem. He has a unique collection of films, photos, equipment and uniforms. In doing so, he continues to give a face to the former Voluntary Landstormers.
For the Memory Vrijheidsmuseum (Nijverdal, the Netherlands) HWW has adapted a display head that shows similarities with photos of Major van Loo in such a way that a look-alike head has been created.

Mother's Day Cake Campaign 1940
Mother's Day fell on Sunday 12 May in 1940. As a kind of “pick-me-up”, the Dutch Confectioners' Association randomly distributed 1,000 vouchers among mobilised Dutch soldiers. Those lucky enough to receive a voucher could send it to the association, which would arrange for a cake to be delivered to the soldier's family. Whether this actually happened is doubtful, because war broke out on 10 May and fierce fighting was taking place in the Netherlands on Mother's Day itself.

Prior to Mother's Day, Polygoon-Profilti, the maker of the Polygoon Journaal and based in Haarlem, decided to make a film about the cake campaign for the mobilised soldiers. Major Van Loo was approached for this. A few months earlier, during the 1939 Christmas dinner, he had already played the leading role in a Polygoon recording, in which all the soldiers were shown being served goose.

In this Polygoon film, Major Van Loo gives a speech about how unique it is that the soldiers are being given goose and that they should not expect this to happen again. Van Loo acts again in the “cake film”, filmed in the Koudenhorn barracks. He addresses the men of the Vrijwillige Landstorm (Volunteer Landstorm) and then cuts the cake with his klewang.]]></video:description>

<video:description><![CDATA[Koninklijk Museum van het Leger en de Krijgsgeschiedenis - Musée royal de l’Armée et d’Histoire militaire

A survey of more than 10 centuries of military and technological history: that would perhaps be the best way to describe the Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and of Military History. The collections range from suits of armour over valuable firearms and masterly crafted swords to armoured vehicles and airplanes.

Uniforms both Belgian and foreign demonstrate the evolution in military equipment and the influence of civil fashion on military clothing.
The history of Belgium is of course never far away: the Austrian, French and Dutch periods, Belgian independence and military politics, the weal and woe of the dynasty, the big world conflicts,… Everything is brought back to life through numerous paintings, sculptures, decorations and other memorabilia.
